youth symposium

The Youth Symposium commenced in October 2023 with the aim of encouraging young people aged 14–25 to engage in active citizenship and discuss issues they are passionate about. Since its inception, the Youth Service has held nine meetings, most in a Q&A format directly with the Minister for Youth, providing young people with a platform to share their concerns and priorities.

In response to these discussions, we have introduced targeted initiatives, including social and educational trips, such as a recent visit to Morocco. The discussions have been thematically categorised to reflect the emerging concerns of young people, including mental health and wellbeing, vocational and non-academic pathways, careers advice, apprenticeships and employment opportunities, safe social events for under-16s, access to inclusive public spaces, gender equality, and disability issues.
